Liberty on the Rocks meets Thursday, May 17th

Thursday, May 17 at 6 PM

SmokinThighs, 611 Wedgewood Ave, Nashville, Tennessee 37203

No prayer, no pledge, no reading of the minutes, no speaker, no program; just a bunch of people who love liberty who get together to talk about whatever anyone wants to talk about. The group is predominantly libertarian but various strips of conservatives are in the mix. This is an occupationally and age mixed group with everyone from laborers to college students to business executives to lawyers in the mix.  Sometimes the conversation gets heated but I have never seen anyone resort to name-calling or get personal. With the average crowd numbering close to twenty people, the large group normally breaks into smaller groups with shifting members. One group may be arguing about the role of the American military and foreign policy or discussing the upcoming mayor's race, anther may be discussing bit coin and technology, and yet another group may not be talking about anything political but may be talking about their travel adventures.

I have been attending LOR almost since the first, about eight years ago, and really enjoy it. Join us for an evening of libation and interesting conversation.

Liberty on the Rocks meets Thursday June 15th.

Liberty on the Rocks meets Tuesday, June 15th at Smoking Thighs on Wedgewood Ave.  LOR has no program, no prayer, no pledge, no speaker, no dues. LOR is just a group of politically aware, well-informed, liberty-loving people who discuss and argue about whatever topic someone brings up. It may be the news of the day or some esoteric philosophical concept. On some rare occasions we don't even talk politics.  Most of those who attend lean more toward the libertarian end of the political spectrum but there is usually a wide range of right-of-center view points represented. The beer is cold and two-for-one in the early evening and the food is pretty good.  If you are attending for the first time, I will buy the first beer. Please join us. If you can't make this one, plan on attending next month.  We meet every third Thursday at 5:30 pm until everyone wants to leave.  Most evening wind up by about 9pm but sometimes may go later, but one can come and leave whenever they want.  To view the LOR Facebook page follow this link.

Liberty on the Rocks, Thursday, December 15th, 5:30PM

Liberty on the Rocks meets Thursday, December 15, 2016 starting at  5:30 PM at Smokin Thighs, 611 Wedgewood Ave, Nashville, TN.

This is a always an enjoyable event.  While the majority political persuasion of those who attend tends to be libertarian there are always a few of we mainstream conservatives in attendance to provide some balance.  Actually, I think we are making converts.

Stop by, have a beer and enjoy some good, stimulating conversation.  There is no formal program and attendance usually runs about twenty people and the big group just naturally breaks into several smaller groups and people often float from one group to the other. It starts winding down about 8:30 but sometimes last much longer and you can come and go whenever it suites you.  You don't have to RSVP but the organizers would like for you to, but you can just show up at the last minute if you would like to stop by. By attending, you are not "joining" anything and you will not get a lot of unwanted email or solicitations for political contributions. Liberty on the Rocks is just a bunch of liberty-loving people getting together to drink, talk, argue, and explore ideas. I hope to see you Thursday.

Liberty on the Rocks, New Location, Thursday, May 19th, 5:30PM

A message from Liberty on the Rocks:

Liberty on the Rocks

  • Thursday, May 19, 2016, 5:30 PM to
  • Smokin Thighs  611 Wedgewood Ave, Nashville, TN (map)
  • ask the hostess to direct you to our section
  • LOCATION CHANGE!

We are moving this and possibly future months' meetings to a new venue - Smokin' Thighs on Wedgewood. They have two- for-one specials until 8 pm and an exquisite selection of moonshines and kool-aids. They have incredible Mac and cheese with a huge toppings menu and a Tonka truck full of hot wings, a dish which will take you on a most glorious foray into the heights of hedonism.

Anyway, we have a big month ahead of us. As you may be aware, the Trump-ets have sounded and we are now facing The End Times. And while the inevitable plagues and oceans of boiling blood are going to be very inconvenient, at least we are that much closer to finally being done with the national affliction known as Presidential Elections. That's right, only six months away from finally breathing a collective sigh of relief as we graciously accept whichever authoritarian overlord deigns us worthy enough to be ruled over.

Closer to home, Bill Haslam signed a bill to allow therapists either to refuse service to clients whose "goals, outcomes or behaviors” conflict with the counselor’s “sincerely held principles” or to out themselves as big 'ole homophobes, depending on whom you ask. Also, the faculty and staff of Tennessee colleges can now arm themselves to the teeth. Students will not be allowed to carry guns but are being supplied with personal safe spaces. No official word yet on whether or not those safe spaces are bulletproof.

Even closer to home, Nashville Mayor Megan Barry delivered her State of Metro Address at the end of April. This was an exciting event that was not at all marred by Barry's recent eviction of a homeless encampment near Fort Negley while spending $1.3 million on renovations at the Mayor's Office. Here's a fun fact I learned from the address - it turns out that Nashville had an overall revenue increase of $121 million over last year. By some strange coincidence, Barry's budget proposal marks a $121 million increase over last year's budget. Coincidences are weird.

Alright, I'm sure lots more will happen in the next couple weeks, so I hope to see you at Liberty on the Rocks now at Smokin' Thighs on Wedgewood!

Liberty on the Rocks - Tennessee, Thursday, December 17, 2015 5:30 PM

Liberty on the Rocks - Tennessee Thursday, December 17, 2015, 5:30 PM,  Mafiaoza's 2400 12th Ave S, Nashville, TN 37204. This is a fun event to argue and converse and network with other right-of-center conspirators.  Despite it being the libertarian strain of right-of-center folks who dominate these gathering, there are enough of us "normal" conservatives in attendance to provide a little balance. There is no pledge, and no prayer, no speaker and no program; just good food, drinking beer, and good conversation. I have been attending for several years now and have always enjoyed them. This event will also be the, " Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out!" good-bye for that contrarian trouble-maker Matt Collins.  RSVP.
Don't let the 5:30 start time concern you. Arrive whenever you can. It starts dwindling down about 9PM, but some times last longer.

The Collins is crawling back into the swamp hole from which he came (no, not Memphis), the phallic shaped peninsular called Florida!

If you want to tell him goodbye, or just tell him off, be sure to come out and let him know you're glad he is gone. This will be your last chance before he devolves back into Florida Man.

See you there!

LOTR - be thankful and come to a safe space to share cheer and beer

Thursday, November 19 at 5:30pm
MAFIAoZA'S 12South in Nashville, Tennessee
RSVP

This is a fun event! There is no opening prayer, no pledge, no treasurer's report, no reading of the minutes of the last meeting, no guest speaker. There is no program and no agenda, no officers and no one in charge. This is just a bunch of right-of-center, liberty-loving people getting together to drink and socialize. Attendance is anywhere from ten to thirty. The group ranges in age from those in their early 20's to those in their late 60's, and with everyone from students to laborers to attorneys. The larger group usually ends up breaking into four or so smaller groups with people floating between the groups. Right of center is still a pretty broad spectrum and interesting discussion and respectful but animated debate is the norm. The predominate point of view is libertarian but there are enough of us mainstream conservatives to offer a little balance. If you are tired of hanging out with your liberal co-workers or family or people who never talk about anything of substance, come hang out with some smart like-minded people.

It is on the patio at Mafiaoza's in the 12th Avenue South neighborhood. The first hour is happy hour with two-for-one drinks.
