Agenda 21 spotted again: Alert number 3 (flagpole permits)

Since Representative Womick says a requirement of a flagpole permit, at no charge, to verify proper footings and wind-load design is an Agenda 21 policy, I am adding that to my list. This is getting to be a long list.

Here are other things that are considered Agenda 21 policies:

Bragg takes Womick to task over Agenda 21 smear

I commented back in mid March how Republican legislator Representative Womick had offered as proof of the dangers of Agenda 21, the case of  Papa’s Butts and BBQ Hot Sauce Store. This business had started out as an office of a fence construction company and the owners hobby of making hot sauce had turned the business into a different kind of business.  From selling some hot sauce in the office of the fence company and then to smoking some shoulders, the location evolved into a restaurant. When the owner went to get a permit for a restaurant, he was told that due to the changing use of the property that now he would have to have a paved parking lot and a certain minimum number of parking spaces. Representative  Womick said that type of regulation was an example of Agenda 21 policies.

It was upon reading this, that my skepticism of the danger of Agenda 21 took a big leap. Requiring a minimum number of parking spaces and paved parking lots for certain kinds of businesses has been standard procedures used across the nation for many, many years and predates Agenda 21. Subsequent to that story, I learned that the Board of Zoning appeal of Murfressboro granted the owner a variance. I don't know the nature of the variance or for how long, but that is the type of things BZA's do.

Now, there is more to the story. The mayor of Murfressboro has written two letters to Womick criticizing him for “misstatements” he made in the General Assembly in order to garner support for a resolution against United Nations Agenda 21. In the first letter he criticizes "misstatement" about about city codes enforcement and in the second letter he criticizes him for “misstatements” in a House Judiciary subcommittee meeting March 14 about Murfreesboro’s flag regulations.

Here is an excerpt from the local news paper that explains more. This excerpt starts quoting the Mayor:

“At the meeting, you began describing the event when you presented a Tennessee flag to the president of the Murfreesboro Medical Clinic (Joey Peay). You commented that after I presented it to him publicly, (he) comes to me and says, ‘Well, Rep. Womick, thank you very much for the Tennessee flag. I appreciate it, but you’re going to have to talk to the City of Murfreesboro because they won’t let me fly the Tennessee flag on my property. We’re not allowed to fly any flags. No U.S., no Tennessee, nothing.’”

“Your comments at the committee meeting did not accurately state the city’s regulations,” Bragg wrote to Womick. “They created the impression that the city banned the display of the flag and damaged our reputation statewide as a patriotic community.”
The story goes on to say that  the city requires a flagpole permit, at no charge, to verify proper footings and wind-load design. Read more of this story at this link: Bragg calls out Rep. Womick for remarks on House floor.

I don't know what to say. This smearing of good people and misrepresenting of facts to make a point is reminiscent of McCarthyism, not that communist influence and infiltration of government was not a real problem at the time, but in the process of exposing and rooting out communist, hysteria was let loose and many good people were black listed and wrongly accused and communism was seen where it did not exist.

Requiring a permit to erect a flag pole may be government overreach. If a flagpole falls on someone and kills them or damages property, the judicial system and insurance claims may be sufficient to deal with it. If government was not involved in permitting flag pole construction, the private sector may be sufficient to cause people to be prudent and government may not be needed. If that is the argument, then make that argument. Don't make the Agenda 21 argument about something as simple as a requirement that one get a permit to erect a flag pole. Shame on you Representative Womick.

TNGOP Chairman's Statement On Today's Rallies Protesting A Fictional 'War On Women'

Tennessee Republican Party Chairman Chris Devaney released the following statement on today’s rallies protesting a fictional ‘war on women.’

“This is yet another political stunt by the Obama campaign and Democrat operatives.  When an incumbent President does not have a record to run on, he has to create distractions, diversions and division – and that’s exactly what we see with their fictional ‘war on women.’

“Tennesseans are smart enough not to be fooled by the Obama campaign’s gimmicks.  They want solutions to our economic problems, not political sideshows.”

Conservative Fusion Book Club: Ideas Have Consequences by Richard Weaver

by Gene Wisdom, organizer of Conservative Fusion
One of the mega-influences of the early post-war conservative movement, Weaver's book was considered by Frank Meyer (who developed the idea of the fusion of conservatism's strands) as "the fons et origo (source and origin) of the contemporary American conservative movement." As such, I don't know why it sat in my library unread for so many years! Powerful in its arguments, it set the tone for much of the development of conservative thinking. Its subject is "the dissolution of the West". I hope you'll find time to read it soon. You can find it at http://www.amazon.com/Ideas-Have-Consequenc.... Looking forward to seeing you there!

There is still time to purchase and read the book, but not much This is a short book at only about 180 pages but it is not a quick easy read. You have to think about what you are reading and I have found my self rereading passages to make sure I understood the content.

The Book Club will meet Wednesday, May 9, 2012, 7:00 PM
Location to be announced. For more information follow this link: http://www.meetup.com/ConservativeFusion

You are invited to join other conservatives and libertarians is civil discussion of serious books and an occasional debate.   Conservative Fusion meets once a month, meeting  in the home of one of the group members. The organizer and leader of this group is Gene Wisdom. Previous books read and discussed by this book club have included The Law by Frederic Bastiat, The Conservative Intellectual Movement in America Since 1945 by George Nash, Liberal Fascism by Jonah Goldberg,  In Defense of Freedom by Frank S. Meyer, The Road to Serfdom by F. A. Hayek, and Economics in One Lesson by Henry Hazlitt.

Below is a review of Ideas Have Consequences:

's review

This book is a marvel. It is an intrusion of a bygone era into the miasma of modernity. It is no wonder that the left loathes Weaver. His is a prophetic voice of denunciation against the tides of modernity assaulting human dignity and personhood.

Weaver argues that the Nominalism of William of Occam has opened the floodgates of relativism, egotism, and sentimentality upon the West, with little traction left for a revival of traditional values.

This is a remarkably dense book. His sentences are a mouthful, let alone a mindful. There is so much there. Take your time with this one and you'll be well rewarded. Just don't jump to the conclusion that he's a hopelessly irrelevant conservative and that our age knows better than the vision of tradition that Weaver so admires.

New 'Stop Agenda 21' Action Kit from the John Birch Society

You know who the John Birch Society is don't you?

They are the group that said President Dwight D. Eisenhower was a willing tool of the Communist Party.  They are the ones who tried to stop fluoridation of water, saying it was a communist plot to get us accustomed to the government medicating us by adding drugs to the water and to make us all stupid. They are the ones who said forming Metro government was a communist plot.

The JBS are the ones who have a grand conspiracy theory that ever since about 1776 all major events of the world, included all of our wars and revolutions and economic upheavals and political movements, including Communism and Nazism, have been orchestrated by the puppet masters of the Illuminati.

The JBS was the groups that was denounced by William F. Buckley and Barry Goldwater.

Now you too can become an expert on Agenda 21 by ordering this new Stop Agenda 21 action kit from the John Birch Society. Here is how to order:

New 'Stop Agenda 21' Action Kit

Activists have been pleading with me to help provide the tools they need to stand up to national and international planning groups, elected officials and the news media in their fight to stop Agenda 21 in their communities.
I have heard you and have responded!

The Action Kit includes (scroll down for a video presentation of the Stop Agenda 21 Action Kit):

Two DVD sets, including two workshops; 3 manuals; 1 workbook; and a special PowerPoint presentation. Everything you need to know all the details on how to fight back against Agenda 21.

Here’s what you find in the Stop Agenda 21 Action Kit:
  • I’ve outlined the treaties, policy papers and international meetings that have set the agenda.
  • I’ve shown how those international policies go directly into local communities, disguised as innocent-sounding development projects or historic preservation – drastically changing our way of life.
  • I’ve revealed how those International plans are moving past Congress and into local communities.
  • I’ve detailed how the Supreme Court has helped them do it.
  • And I’ve exposed the private organizations that are able to take control of your community and enforce these policies, without a vote or any input from you.
  • How international policy is directing local communities to enforce cutbacks on water use by as much as 75%.
  • The Sierra Club’s plan to force 500 families to live on one acre of land — and they call it “Smart Growth.”
  • The real reason why the Supreme Court destroyed private property rights in the infamous “Kelo” decision. It says that any property may be taken by the community for the “common good.”
  • The actual definition of a “Soviet” and how international organizations are at work right now in your community, enforcing policy to turn your town into a little soviet of non-elected boards, councils and regional governments answerable to no one.
There’s more — much more.
  • Did you think Obama’s health care policy is his brainchild? Of course not. Again, it has international roots. I will show you the direct connection and the true purpose behind the planned destruction of America’s health care system.
Trust me — the reports of health care rationing and death counseling are very real.  I’ll show you where these ideas came from.
  • Did you think it was Ronald Reagan who killed the Soviet Union? I’ll give you the details on how Gorbachev himself did it and I’ll tell you why.
  • Did you think your children aren’t learning because there isn’t enough money and teachers in the classrooms? I’ll show you that the dumbing down of American children is done on purpose and that the schools are operating perfectly — for what they have been “reformed” to do.
Click here to purchase your "Stop Agenda 21" Action Kit.

        And there’s still more…
  • I’ve provided details on how the “consensus” on global warming has collapsed.
  • And to prove that global warming is the greatest hoax ever played on mankind – I’ve provided more evidence and quotes from scientists from around the world than you have ever seen in the news media
  • I’ve provided stories of some of the victims of these tyrannical policies and how they have been robbed of their property and livelihood — simply because a government thug has too much power.
Most important, to complete this massive project, I sought help from some of the leading experts on the issue of Agenda 21 and Sustainable Development, including Henry Lamb, the man who first revealed the threat of Agenda 21 to the nation; along with Mike Coffman, one of the nation’s leading experts on Smart Growth; and Michael Chapman, the most knowledgeable expert on how the public school curriculum is being used to train your children to be the perfect citizens of the global village; the late Dr. Madeleine Cosman, a pioneer in exposing the destruction of our nation’s once great health care system and how ObamaCare is directly related to Agenda 21; Clarice Ryan, one of the nation’s leading experts on the threat of Conservation Easements; John Anthony, a rising new activist star in the fight to stop Agenda 21; Beverly Eakman, an expert on the psychology behind Consensus meetings; and Paul Driessen, Marc Morano and Jay Lehr, three of the nation’s leading experts on the global warming hoax and the fallacies of “alternative energy.”

I relied on these experts along with several of the leading activists who are on the front lines fighting Agenda 21 from the state house to city council chambers.

Of course there are lots of newsletters, blogs, and internet sites out there telling you about “insider” information that is supposed to reveal the “truth.”

Other “experts” are missing the core threat. It’s not discussed in the media, newsletters or national conferences. Even many TEA Party rallies.

But it is revealed in detail in the Stop Agenda 21 Action Kit.

Only in my Action Kit will you learn:
  • How our language is being manipulated to control policy.
  • The threat we face is not a Republican or Democrat issue.
  • The ruling principle that will completely reorganize our society.
  • The three E’s of the “Sustainable” collective.
  • The threat of the “precautionary principle,” and how it will destroy our economy.
  • The diabolical plan behind Bill Clinton’s “reinvention” of government and the disastrous affects on our nation today.
  • How Public/Private Partnerships are destroying free enterprise.
  • Little known details about ICLEI, the international organization that is taking over most American cities and running them without voter input.
  • The leader of that same organization actually said, “Individual rights will have to take a back seat to the collective.”
  • How the politically-based radical environmental movement uses fear of environmental damage as camouflage while they work to transform the American systems of government, justice and economics.
  • How the United Nations intends to rule the entire world as its “global commons.”
  • How the “death” of the Soviet Union actually freed its leaders to expand their power and influence over the world.
  • The dawn of “Common-ism” that transformed national sovereignty, natural resources, and private land into “common property” for the global commons.
  • How the public education system has been transformed to create global village idiots.
  • The four international commissions that are transforming the world towards global governance.
  • The full definition of an NGO and where these privately-funded groups get their power.
  • The most powerful environmental group in the world and why it’s the most dangerous.
  • How UN policies become American law.
  • The Charter for Global Democracy and how its 12 principles are being fully implemented to create global governance.
  • The Smart Growth fraud.
  • The lunacy of the Wildlands Project.
  • How “green” industry and “green” school houses are costing taxpayers millions in additional costs -- with no benefit.
  • How international policy is directing local communities to enforce cutbacks on water use by as much as 75%.
  • The Sierra Club’s plan to force 500 families to live on one acre of land – and they call it “Smart Growth.”
  • I’ve shown how those international policies go directly into local communities, disguised as innocent-sounding development projects or historic preservation – drastically changing our way of life.
  • I’ve revealed how those International plans have moved past Congress and into local communities.
  • I’ve detailed how the Supreme Court has helped them do it.
  • And I’ve exposed the private organizations that are able to take control of your community and enforce these policies, without a vote or any input from you.

All of these details are included in the special MANUAL of the Action Kt.

But there is more — much more!

The Action Kit also includes:

A set of DVDs with the following presentations

Now you know where all of these experts are coming from in almost every county in America to teach about Agenda 21.  And, where the sample legislation is coming from that is getting introduced in state after state.  For $195 you too can be an expert.

I am not saying that we should not be concerned about the influence of Agenda 21. I am not taking the position that Agenda 21, which has no force in law, may not contain some policy proposals that we should reject. I am saying you should take with a grain of salt anything that comes from the John Birch Society.

If this interest in Agenda 21 causes more people to start reading their local government's General Plan, then that is a good thing. I think that more people should get involved in zoning and planning issues and be better informed about what policies their planning commissions and local governing bodies are adopting. I think local governments can exert too much control. They can adopt bad polices. We need more citizen awareness and involvement.

I tried to read agenda 21 for myself but only read about the first six of the forty chapters. It is real boring and I always seem to have something more important to do. I have read a lot about it and watched internet videos, but I can't seem to get much real information about Agenda 21 from any reputable source. An analysis of Agenda 21 has not been done by Cato, or Heritage or any other of the reputable conservative policy study groups. It has not been denounced by David Brooks or George Will are any of the other dozens of reputable conservative columnist. With the exception of Glen Beck, I don't think it gets more than a quick passing reference from anyone.

Across the nation in city after city, people are denouncing all sorts of things as part of the Agenda 21 agenda. Below is a list:

  • outcome based education
  • sustainable agriculture
  • Community assets inventory
  • Traffic Roundabouts
  • greenways and bikeways
  • conservation easements
  • General Land use Plans
  • Neighborhood groups
  • Smart growth
  • Smart Meters
  • Community oriented policing
  • opposition to suburban sprawl
  • opposition to road expansions
  • requirements that parking lots be paved
  • requirements that commercial enterprises have a minimum number of parking spaces
  • the effort to regulate dietary supplements and organic foods
This is real. If you doubt it, Google any of the terms above combined with "Agenda 21." Everything someone doesn't like is getting denounced as part of Agenda 21.

I really like greenways.  I thing community policing is the way they used to do policing when policemen walked a beat and is a good thing.  I have driven in Europe where roundabouts are common. They make a lot of sense, increase safety and save time idling at traffic lights, yet apparently they too are part of the Agenda 21 conspiracy.   Please, please think before you denounce something you don't like as being part of the Agenda 21 conspiracy. Just say, "I don't like roundabouts." You don't have to denounce it as part of Agenda 21.

If you go to a public education meeting on Agenda 21, you might want to ask your expert, if he got his expertize for $195 from the John Birch Society.

Agenda 21 spotted again: Alert number 2

I spotted another Agenda 21 policy: the introduction of wolves. You see, the practice of reintroducing wolves is a plot to force ranchers and farmers off their land.  It is not just a bad idea or a plan that needs some tweaking it is part of the grand plot that is Agenda 21. Here is video that explains it:

I am adding "introduction of wolves" to the below list of other things that are part of the Agenda 21 conspiracy:

  • Actions that "enable the retrofitting of shopping malls and shopping centers into dense, walkable, mixed-use town centers.
  • outcome based education
  • sustainable agriculture
  • Community assets inventory
  • Traffic Roundabouts
  • greenways and bikeways
  • conservation easements
  • General Land use Plans
  • Neighborhood groups
  • Smart growth
  • Smart Meters
  • Community oriented policing
  • opposition to suburban sprawl
  • opposition to road expansions
  • requirements that parking lots be paved
  • requirements that commercial enterprises have a minimum number of parking spaces for various uses.
  • the effort to regulate dietary supplements and organic foods
  • Walkable Communities
  • multi-use dwellings
  • Buffer zones
If it seems like Agenda 21 is everywhere, it is because it is. Anything someone does not like is probably part of Agenda 21.

Actually reading Agenda 21, Part 1

I started actually reading Agenda 21 tonight. So far, I am I see nothing to alarm anyone.  I see a document that should please conservatives.  It calls for reducing deficits, free trade, curtailing bureaucracy, economic growth, and ending agriculture price supports and lots of other good stuff.  So far it reads like a TEA party manifesto!

I am actually going to read Agenda 21 and report my finding here. I will report the the good, the bad, the ugly and the suspect of Agenda 21, keeping in mind that it has absolutely no force in law. It may take a while to go through all 40 chapters. However, they are short chapters but kind of boring.

I will update every time something new is added to this review with a new post. The next post in this summary will be "Actually reading Agenda 21, Part 2." You can go here and find the text and then go to the numbered section if you want to read my quotes or summaries in the document itself to make sure I am not misrepresenting it.

The good
2.1 "It is important to overcome confrontation and to foster a climate of genuine cooperation and solidarity.". We don't desire confrontation do we? This is good, yes?

2.5. "An open, equitable, secure, non-discriminatory and predictable multilateral trading system that is consistent with the goals of sustainable development and leads to the optimal distribution of global production in accordance with comparative advantage is of benefit to all trading partners." "Comparative advantage" is straight out of Adam Smith. So far I like this document. Also, I think we all want a predictable multilateral trading system.

2.7 We need to remove "tariff and non-tariff impediments" to trade. That sounds good to me. We need "substantial and progressive reduction in the support and protection of agriculture." Yes! End price support for agriculture! This sound like a conservative document so far.

2.8 "In recent years, a growing number of these countries have adopted courageous policy reforms involving ambitious autonomous trade liberalization, while far-reaching reforms and profound restructuring processes are taking place in Central and Eastern European countries, paving the way for their integration into the world economy and the international trading system. Increased attention is being devoted to enhancing the role of enterprises and promoting competitive markets through adoption of competitive policies. This sounds like an anti-Communist document! Remember this was written in 1992  Eastern Europe had just thrown off the yoke of Communism and was transitioning to a market economy.  This document is celebrating the defeat of Communism!

2.10 (a) "Halt and reverse protectionism in order to bring about further liberalization and expansion of world trade, to the benefit of all countries,..." . Protectionism is a bad thing. Right? As conservatives we believe in free trade. So far this sounds pretty good.

2.12. "Therefore, all countries should implement previous commitments to halt and reverse protectionism and further expand market access" There is lot in this document about ending protectionism so I am not going to repeat every reference to it but this may have been written by Milton Fiedman. The document repeatedly warns about the danges of policies that act as a restraint on trade.

2.19  "An open, multilateral trading system makes possible a more efficient allocation and use of resources and thereby contributes to an increase in production and incomes and to lessening demands on the environment. It thus provides additional resources needed for economic growth and development and improved environmental protection."  YES! Absolutely! Capitalism is good for the environment.

2.23 "Foreign private investment and the return of flight capital, which depend on a healthy investment climate, are an important source of financial resources. This is great! It recognized that development depends on a healthy investment climate.

2.27 - 2.30 addresses debt of poor countries. This document does not call for blanket debt forgiveness but restructuring combined with reform that encourages growth. This document is not advocating massive wealth redistribution.

2.35 Industrial countries and those that can do should strengthen efforts" To stimulate savings and reduce fiscal deficits."  That is what we believe! Reducing deficits is the cry of the TEA party!

2.37 (a)  "Remove the barriers to progress caused by bureaucratic inefficiencies, administrative strains, unnecessary controls and the neglect of market conditions;" Yes! Again, this is the cry of conservatives.

2.38 (c)  "Promotion of entrepreneurship."

The Bad

The Suspect
2.17. "The Conference secretariat has estimated the average total annual cost (1993-2000) of implementing the activities in this programme area to be about $8.8 billion from the international community on grant or concessional terms." Another section says the price tag of that section is $50 million. I am putting this in the suspect category. However, if it makes the world a better, safer, more humane place and the aid was contingent upon "concessional terms" our share would be less that the cost of a good war, so I am not particularly bothered that this plan has a price tag. Anyway, it is only a report. It is not a bill.

Agenda 21 spotted again: Alert number 1

Wow! This Agenda 21 is being imposed all over the country! I am going to start posting an alert every time I see that someone has spotted a new case of Agenda 21 policies.

Here is the latest example of someone spotting an Agenda 21 measure:

See the danger? We can't be having no "dense, walkable mixed-use town centers."  That is communism, I tell you. First we have "dense, walkable mixed-use town centers" and next thing you know, it is off to the gulag. Letting declining empty shopping centers sit abandoned and be an eye sore is the American Way. These people trying to turn empty shopping centers into "dense, walkable mixed-use town centers" are just un-American. In fact walking may be un-American. As a good American, you should always drive; never walk. Enabling "the retrofitting of shopping malls and shopping centers into dense, walkable, mixed-use town centers" joins a long list of these other terrible examples of things that are part of Agenda 21. Here are other examples:

  • outcome based education
  • sustainable agriculture
  • Community assets inventory
  • Traffic Roundabouts
  • greenways and bikeways
  • conservation easements
  • General Land use Plans
  • Neighborhood groups
  • Smart growth
  • Smart Meters
  • Community oriented policing
  • opposition to suburban sprawl
  • opposition to road expansions
  • requirements that parking lots be paved
  • requirements that commercial enterprises have a minimum number of parking spaces for various uses.
  • the effort to regulate dietary supplements and organic foods
  • Walkable Communities
  • multi-use dewellings
  • Buffer zones
Aren't you glad the Republicans in the State Legislature and the Republican National Committee and our own local Republican and TEA party leaders are doing all they can to protect us from the insidious evil of Agenda 21?

Dig deeper to save the fairgrounds

Dear Red Army:

I called.  You answered.

What you have done in the past 36 hours has been impressive.  Emails were reaching the legislature rapidly, 1 every 3 minutes for periods of time.

But now I need you to dig deep.

The Tennessee State Senate will consider a bill that allows the State Fair as we know it to move outside of Davidson County, the state Capital.

A Senate subcommittee will meet on Friday in Legislative Plaza Room 12 at 9:15am to consider an amendment to require the State Fair be held in Davidson County thru 2015 (it still allows the state fair to be controlled by the state, a reality we may have to face).  At 10:00am, the full Senate will convene at the 2nd floor of the Capital Building to vote.

Farris Announces Campaign for State House

Jobs, Economy, and Responsible Leadership to Be Focus

NASHVILLE – Bellevue real estate agent Dwight “DJ” Farris announced today that he is running as a Republican for State Representative, District 50.
“I am proud to call Bellevue my home,” said Farris.  “I am overwhelmed by the support I have already received in the community, encouraging me to run and supporting my campaign.  It is clear that the people of the 50th district are calling for new leadership.  To keep Tennessee on the road to excellence, we need leadership that understands what it takes to reach higher.”
“It is time for our district to have a Representative focused on how to get Tennesseans back to work.  Government doesn’t create jobs; getting government out of the way so job creators can do what they do best is a great start.  The time is now for our campaign to create this climate for economic growth.  Among other things, the people of the 50th district want a balanced budget, low taxes, an efficient and customer-friendly government, and the best education possible for their children.

“I am ready to work hard for the people of Davidson County, and honored by the encouragement I have received to join this race. My experience in the private sector gives me the experience our district needs to ensure that our area is one that attracts jobs and investment.  Tennesseans understand government should operate in a limited role and turn its focus to cutting spending and balancing the budget,” concluded Farris.
Farris is a Realtor and resident of Bellevue, graduate of Lipscomb University, pursuing MBA at Middle Tennessee State University, President of the Homeowner’s Association at Montview Condominiums, and Membership Chair for the Tennessee Chapter of The Institute of Classical Architecture & Art.

District 50 includes Bellevue, Goodlettsville, Joelton, Whites Creek, Madison, Scottsboro, Whites Bend, Union Hill, South Harpeth, and Bellshire in Davidson County.

Planning Commissioners must disclose

Today the Tennessee House of Representatives gave final approval to a bill by Republican Rep. Jim Gotto requiring local and regional planning commissioners to file interest disclosures with the Tennessee Ethics Commission. The House vote was 88-2. This bill would require the estimated  3,000 planning commissioners in the state to submit the same disclosure requirements as most other state and local  public officials.

This is a good bill that deserved to pass. Thanks to Representative Gotto for bringing about more open and transparent government. We need to know how the planning commissioners earn their living and who is wining and dining them. They are often the most powerful people in local government. Their approval or disapproval of a zoning proposal can make someone rich or not. If someone is sending members of the planning commission to a conference or junket or buying them lavish meals, we need to know. Their life and their financial dealings and financial interest should be an open book. Their ethics should be above reproach.

Free markets can save the planet

For those who think global warming theory is all a lie and junk science perpetuated by Marxist scientist who are all a part of Al Gore's grand conspiracy, you will not be interested in the below article.

I have been skeptical of global warming alarmism. I have been convinced that some scientist really do cook the books to "hide the decline." I believe dissenting scientific voices have been marginalized and silenced. I think wind mills are folly and no solution at all and ethanol has been a huge waste of money and harmful to the environment. I think a lot of environmentalist do really silly, feel-good, symbolic things that serve no purpose. I think most carbon off-set schemes are a scam and a con game. Nevertheless, on balance, I believe global warming theory is valid and we have reason to be concerned.

I know that there are some environmentalist who think the only way to save the planet is to establish a one world government or drastically restrict national sovereignty, destroy free enterprise, drastically restrict freedom and to force people to live an austere existence with few creature comforts. I do not accept that.

I believe we can manage economic growth, lift people out of poverty, and address global warming by having more freedom, not less. I believe more capitalism, not less will solve the problem of global warming and other environmental problems. I believe the invisible hand of the market will lead to the right decisions assuming the cost of  externalities  are property entered into the equation. I believe technology and scientific advances can lead to a better world, not a less desirable world.

Unfortunately most conservatives are sitting on the sidelines, ridiculing science, and taking a what-me-worry attitude rather than offering real alternatives to liberal prescriptions.  Unfortunately, their is not a debate about how to solve the problem of global warming because conservatives are still denying there is a problem. This article explains how markets can help save the planet.

Free Markets Save the Planet
Nick Sibilla, Reason, January 27, 2012
A startling new report from the International Energy Agency (IEA) reveals a free-market way to thwart climate change: Create a free market in energy.   Fatih Birol, chief economist at the IEA, estimates that 37 nations spent $409 billion on fossil fuel subsidies in 2010. (By comparison, renewables received $66 billion in that same year.)
Impressively, if fossil fuel subsidies were eliminated, this would avoid 750 million tons of CO2 by 2015, and could potentially save over 2.5 gigatons of carbon by 2035. The latter is 70 percent of what the European Union currently emits. In total, by ending these distortions in the energy market, the world could reduce half of the carbon emissions necessary to stop a 2°C (3.6°F) rise in global temperatures. read more

Update: Prayers for Senator Henry

Veteran state Senator. Douglas Henry has been taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for tests. The 85-year-old Nashville Democrat began to experience high blood pressure and felt dizzy in a caucus meeting after the Senate floor session ended Tuesday. Senator Henry is probably my favorite Democrat politician. Everyone likes Senator Henry. He is a kind, gentlemanly person, fiscally conservative, rational, knowledgeable and loves this State. I salute him for his many years of public service and wish him well.

Senator Henry was released and back at work the next day.

TLC caught on camera impesonating police officers!

Watch this video! Transportation Licensing Commission inspectors are caught on tape impersonating police officers! Charges of extortion, official misconduct and impersonating police officers were leveled against the TLC as long ago as 2007 but nothing was done. TLC officers may face criminal charges.

Thanks to Channel 4 for reporting this story that has gone unreported for too long.

Not only has the TLC engaged in harassing citizens and impersonating police officers, but the Metro Council and the city of Nashville have engaged in price fixing and the writing of regulations to benefit the well-connected, well-established limousine companies to protect them from competition from innovative, less costly competition. This is a shameful example of crony capitalism and the government picking winner and losers. To learn more about this issue follow this link.

State Fairgrounds - URGENT

If you're having trouble viewing this email, you may see it online.
Share This:

Dear Red Army:

We need you.

The Tennessee State House has passed a bill that will likely ensure the loss of our Tennessee State
Fairgrounds! The bill is up for a vote in the Senate THIS THURSDAY.

The bill gives control of the Tennessee State Fair (only the fair) to a state appointed commission and
threatens to take it out of Davidson County.  This is exactly what Mayor Dean has sought from the
beginning. The Senate sponsor, Democrat Joe Haynes of Nashville, has been asked to amend the
bill to require the fair to stay in Davidson County and so far he has refused!  Coincidentally, the Press
Secretary for the Democrats is the leader of the SNAP organization that led the effort to demolish the
racetrack, give up the State Fair and kick out the Flea Market.

This new legislation also contains language that could allow the Fairgrounds to be sold: "(6) Sell or
convey all or a portion of the property, land, or buildings under its management subject to the approval of the state building commission;"

Your help is needed to sway our senators. They must hear from you ASAP!

1)  They must hear from you by high-noon, Wednesday, April 25. Ask that they honor the voter's
wishes and amend the bill to keep the Tennessee State Fair in the capital city at its home for over
106 years!  Copy/Paste the addresses from BELOW to send an EMAIL to all of Tennessee's
Senators.

2)  If available, unpack your red shirts and be on the second floor of the TN State Capital
building at 8:30am Thursday morning for "Red Army" action!

3) Call the Davidson County Senators (Davidson County is broken into 3 senate regions) and the
Gov and Lt. Gov.:

Sen. Thelma Harper: 741-2453
Sen. Doug Henry: 741-3291
Sen. Joe Haynes: 741-6679
Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey: 741-4524
Governor Haslam: 741-2001

Long live the Tennessee State Fairgrounds!  And, more power to the "Red Army."

PS. Tennessee Farm Bureau is pushing this legislation in the name of "saving the state fair." They
need to hear from you as well! Ask that they put what they say they want in black-n-white and support
 this amendment.

Sincerely,
Duane Dominy
District 28 Councilman
101 Cherokee Place
Antioch, TN 37013
