Rick Perry Pitched Meadows On Plan To Steal Election Even Before Results Were In

The evidence is overwhelming and continues to mount that there was an attempt by and on behalf of Donald Trump to steal the Nov. 2020 election.  I don't know that there is enough evidence of treason to convict anyone of the crime, but the conspirators should go down in history as traitors who attempted a coup, and they should not be welcome in polite society. Their names should be removed from buildings and if they have highways or bridges named after them, those structures should be renamed.  They should be shunned and treated as shameful embarrassments. 

I was not surprised that there was a coup attempt following the 2020 election. I had a bad feeling that we would see violence and maybe a coup attempt following the election, but I badly missed how it would play out.  I thought President Trump would win the election and there would be a coup attempt from the left.  Liberals hated Trump with such a passion and many thought of him as the next Hitler.  If one is stopping the next Hitler then a coup is justified.

I always thought that if there ever was a coup, or attempted coup, in America it would come from the left.  Liberals, I reasoned, do not really love America the way conservatives do.  They scoff at patriotism and they see the Constitution as not much more than an impediment to the enactment of the general will.  Conservatives, on the other hand, are patriots and they revere our republican form of government, liberty and order, and the constitution. 

As it turned out, conservatives (Republicans or those who have co-opted the label "conservative,") are willing to defile the constitution and illegally seize power.  What is labeled as "conservatives" today consists of people who are no better than progressives.  Trumpinistas, including former Governor Rick Perry, assuming the allegation is true, are traitors who plotted to betray their country.

CNN: Rick Perry Pitched Meadows On Plan To Steal Election Even Before Results Were In

By Josh Kovensky, December 17, 2021-  Investigators on the Jan. 6 Committee believe that former Energy Secretary Rick Perry authored a Nov. 4 text to Mark Meadows suggesting that three state legislatures overrule their voters and cast electoral votes for Trump, CNN reports.

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) presented the text on Tuesday night, which reads: “HERE’s an AGRESSIVE (sic) STRATEGY: Why can t (sic) the states of GA NC PENN and other R controlled state houses declare this is BS (where conflicts and election not called that night) and just send their own electors to vote and have it go to the SCOTUS.”

Perry sent the text on Nov. 4, one day after the election was held and as votes in key states were still being counted.

... the plan resembles what Trump would partly spend the following two months doing: trying to pressure state legislatures into sending Trump, and not Biden, electors to Congress, regardless of their vote counts.

What Now for South Carolina Primary? Is it Down to Romney vs. Gingich?

Newt surges, Huntsman is out, Perry calls it quits, Newt wanted an Open Marriage. Is it over? Does Romney win?

Is the race down to Romney vs. Gingrich? Will the allegations of Gingrich's ex-wife hurt Newt with the family values voters and will it boost Santorum? Will Perry's endorsement of Newt help him.? What about Ron Paul?

As one who has had a vengeful ex-wife lie and try to destroy you, I am taking the allegations against Newt with a grain of salt. And, even if there is some truth to the charges, I do not think being an adulterer necessarily disqualifies you from being president, nor does asking your spouse to indulge your infidelity disqualify you. I am still in the Newt camp.

If only people who never committed adultery were elected president we would not have had Thomas Jefferson, FDR, Dwight D. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, or Bill Clinton. And, those are only the ones we know about. I do not think these allegations of Newts long-ago infidelity and the relationship with his former wife hurt him in the general election.  Getting a blow job in the oval office and then lying about it did not hurt Bill Clinton.  American is much less prudish and judgmental (or moral, if your prefer) than in years past.  However, I am not sure how these allegation will play with Republican primary voters in South Carolina.  What do you think?

For Whom Would you Vote in the South Carolina Primary?

The polls just closed in New Hampshire with former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney in the lead, Ron Paul looks to be in second and Jon Huntsman in third. More detailed information should be available soon.

So, where do we go from here? Herman Cain is gone, Michelle Backman is gone and everyone else looks damaged. Mitt Romney keeps winning and leading in the polls, yet I hardly ever hear anyone who seems really thrilled by his candidacy. Will Romney be the nominee? Can you support him? Will South Carolina narrow the field to only one potential competitor to Romney? Who will that be?

As all who follow politics know, the Iowa caucus was won by Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum closely followed. Below are the results of the Iowa caucus.

After Santorum's come-from-way- behind win in Iowa, I am going to take a closer look at Santorum but fear his emphasis on social issues will not play well in a general election. I just don't think that is where our party's emphasis should be.  While I do think that one can hold a moral view that is different than one's policy objectives as President, I am still turned off by Santorum's views on birth control. I don't think he would try to ban birth control, mind you; I just have a hard time embracing one with those views. However, that would not be a factor in my support for him if he otherwise inspired or motivated me. I really don't know what it is, but I can't get excited about Santorum. He just doesn't look like the kind of guy I would want to have a beer with.

I have been a supporter of Newt Gingrich, getting on the Newt bandwagon in early November after about a week each of liking Bachman, Cain and Perry. I had a hard time getting very enthused about any of our candidates then I saw a debate between Cain and Gringrich and was so impressed with Gingrich that I remembered why I liked him so much when he was Speaker. I am still hanging in there with Newt but am now a weak supporter. My enthusiasm is waning. I am beginning to think electability is a more important factor than other factors. I am now not so sure Republicans should gamble on Newt. I still think he is the smartest of the bunch, but not sure he can win a general election against Obama. For the many people who primarily vote based on a gut lever reaction rather than thinking much about the issue, I am afraid Newt negatives would outweigh his positives.

No matter that Ron Paul has done well in the Iowa caucus and New Hampshire primary, I just do not believe he will be the Republican nominee. He is just too far outside the mainstream. I just hope the libertarian Republicans do not go play in the Libertarian Party. A defection from a defeated Ron Paul would guarantee an Obama election.

I have been opposed to Mitt Romney, but I am not sure there is an alternative who has electability. I so fear that our country will hardly be recognizable if we have four more years of Obama, that I may go with the electable Romney over smart guy Newt.  I also going to give Mitt another chance to convince me he is sufficiently conservative to deserve my support and he will lead the country rather than chase opinion polls. 

I attended First Tuesday last week and a secret poll was taken of those attending. First Tuesday is an important monthly Republican luncheon here in Nashville. It is hard to estimate the attendance but maybe two to three hundred people attend. In the First Tuesday poll, Mitt Romney was the overwhelming favorite. Of course First Tuesday is attended by committed Republican who can take a long lunch break and may reflect a more establishment point of view than the average Republican voter. Still, I was surprised by the level of support for Mitt. I did not take notes but he got about half of all votes cast at this event.

I ran a pre-Iowa poll here on Disgruntled Republican. The poll was up for about ten days and sixty-eight people voted. It ended the day of the Iowa primary. I wanted to see who visitors of this blog supported. Newt Gingrich came in first getting 26% of the votes cast, followed by Ron Paul in second place with 25% and then Mitt Romney.  Below are the totals:

Newt wins Again; Perry forgets.

In my view, Newt Gingrich by far out shown every other candidate on the stage last night. Newt has well thought out answers and a great depth of knowledge. You know he is not making it up as he goes along and he is not relying on memorized talking points. He knows what he is talking about and he is philosophically grounded.  Romney performed well but he can not convince me he has any core convictions.



Poor ole Rick Perry blew it. If you are going to be adamant that there are three agencies you would abolish, don't forget which ones they are.

The Iowa Eight did not Thrill me. Welcome to the Arena, Rick Perry.

I watched the debate in Iowa the other night and unfortunately none of the candidates really thrilled me. None of them, I thought, were electable except perhaps Romney and I just don't like Romney. It is primarily due to his passing a health care plan in Massachusetts which is almost identical to Obamacare. Also, Romney just appears a little too slick. And, he flip-flopped from pro-choice to pro-life at one time, not that I have never changed my mind on an issue, but I just think Romney is one who would change his position on a critical issue to get the nomination. I just don't think Romney is a real conservative. I would support him over Obama should he be the nominee but I could not get excited about Romney. I want to get excited about the person I am going to support.

I agree with what many pundits has said about Tim Pawlenty's poor performance. I was thinking Pawlenty might be the candidate I could support, but he performed poorly and then came in a distant third in the straw poll and has since withdrawn from the race.

I like Michele Bachman but she is just too doctrinaire and inflexible for my taste. She not only voted against the final compromise on the deal to raise the debt limit, she voted against the House cut, cap, and balance bill. With the government borrowing 41 cents out of ever dollar it spends, it is not going to be possible to cut that amount out of the budget all at once. Apparently, she would have let the government default rather than raise the debt limit, under any circumstances.  We need someone with a little more flexibility. Being principled is to be admired but we need someone who is also pragmatic and ready to govern. Nevertheless, if she were the nominee, I would support her, but I don't think she could be elected.

Ron Paul: I occasionally like what he has to say. I never doubt his sincerity and the certainty of his position.  However, his isolationist foreign policy really scares me. I do not want to let North Korea or Iran get the bomb.  We must stay engaged in the world. However, I think he is right when he says it is time to end the isolation of Cuba. He can not win the nomination. He can win straw polls. His supporters will attend CPAC and other events to vote in a straw poll. He has an enthusiastic following, but there is no way he can win the nomination and if he did, there is no way he could be elected president. He is not to be taken seriously as a candidate.

Newt Gingrich: I thought Newt performed well in the debate. He was probably the smartest man on the stage. For some reason however, it seems Newt's time has passed. Part of the reason Newt has fallen out of favor with me is that he has pandered to the Sharia law fear mongers and anti-Muslim zealots. Still, I would contribute money and work for Newt's election if he were the candidate but the thrill is gone.

Herman Cain: The first few times I saw Herman Cain, I got the start of a thrill. His pandering to the anti-Muslim zealots and saying Muslims should not have the right to build a mosque in Murfreesboro, turned me against Cain however. He later clarified his position and said he was wrong in his statements in Murfressboro. I am glad he reversed his position, but someone who is no more grounded in his believes and no more committed to the First Amendment than to take the position he took in the first place concerns me. Nevertheless, I could support him if he were the candidate. Before I could get behind his campaign, I would have to hear more.

Jon Huntsman did nothing for me. He is the lone liberal Republican.  Rick Santorum did not distinguish himself but I would give him another look. I wish Chris Christi was a candidate and part of the debate. I really like Christie but he is not running. I really don't think Sarah Palin will run. I am not sure what game she is playing but I don't think she is a candidate for president and she would not be my preferred candidate should she run. Quite frankly, I don't think Palin would do well in a debate. I like her values and her personality but I am not sure she can think on her feet and I think she would show herself unqualified to be president be President if she were to participate in the debate.

Since the debate in Iowa, I have been pleased to see Rick Perry throw his hat in the ring. He has that "something" that inspires and motivates. I do not know his position on all of the issues yet, and he may end up disappointing me, bus so far, I am impressed by Perry. I want to learn more.

Richard A. Viguerie, Chairman of ConservativeHQ.com and long time conservative fund raiser and activist had this to say about Rick Perry:

To win the Republican nomination this time, a candidate must do two things.

First, the candidate must convince GOP primary voters that he or she is a committed conservative.  They don't have to be the reincarnation of Ronald Reagan, but they do have to be convincing as the conservative standard bearer.

Second, that person has to convince Republican primary voters that he or she can defeat Barack Obama.

A few of the eight candidates on the stage in Ames, Iowa can pass one of those tests.  On the day he announced, Rick Perry made it clear he is the only candidate who passes both of them.

Viguerie, I think, is right. That is the test the candidate must pass. The third test for me is that the person must convince me that if elected he can govern. Viguerie may be right. Perry may be the candidate who can pass the test. I am starting to feel a thrill.

Lt. Gov. Ramsey encourages Rick Perry to run for President

(Nashville) – Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey (R-Tennessee) today issued a strong statement of support for Gov. Rick Perry (R-Texas) after attending a private meeting with the governor in San Antonio. Gov. Perry is widely believed to be exploring a run for President with an announcement likely in the next few weeks.

“With the stakes this high, I don’t think any of us have the luxury of standing on the sidelines in the upcoming election,” said Lt. Gov. Ramsey. “Our country is at the edge of a precipice. We can either allow President Obama to drive us into the abyss or we can stand our ground and take our country back. I believe Gov. Perry to be the man best suited to lead this fight. Lt. Gov. Ramsey cited not only Perry’s strong support for the 10th Amendment but also his stunning record of economic success as the reasons for his early and enthusiastic support.

“Even Gov. Perry’s detractors concede that the economic success of Texas throughout the Obama Recession has been nothing short of miraculous,” stated Ramsey. “Slice the numbers anyway you like, Gov. Perry’s record in Texas doesn’t lie. I’m eager to see Gov Perry’s Texas recipe for economic growth served up to the entire nation.”

“I think Gov. Perry understands the stakes in this election and welcomes the challenge. He has a long and proven track record of winning elections while at the same time sticking to his principles. His leadership in Texas has been the embodiment of constitutional conservative governance in action. I’m proud to stand behind him.”

Lt. Gov. Ramsey was also candid in dismissing criticism, leveled by potential rival campaigns, that Gov. Perry is unfit to carry the conservative banner because of his involvement in the 1988 Presidential campaign of Al Gore.

“That’s just silly. The Al Gore of 1988 wasn’t the Al Gore of today or even the Al Gore of 2000. Al Gore is a political chameleon and back in the eighties he was doing every thing he could to convince conservatives that he was their representative in the Democratic Party.”

“The true conservatives in the Democratic Party were the first to see Al Gore was a fraud and came to terms with the fact that that the Democratic Party of their fathers was no more. Rick Perry was one of those Democrats.”

“Let’s remember, Ronald Reagan was a Democrat once upon a time. Now he’s a conservative hero to millions of Republicans. Look at Gov. Perry’s record since 1990. Is it more Al Gore or more Ronald Reagan? The man’s record speaks for itself.”

Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey, the first GOP Senate Speaker in Tennessee in 140 years, has been named “The Best Lawmaker for Business in Tennessee” by Business Tennessee magazine for his success in passing pro-growth policy to improve the state’s business climate.

In the 2008 elections, which saw Republicans suffer major losses across the country, Ramsey led Tennessee’s Republicans to a gain of three Senate seats and a solid five seat majority. Lt. Governor Ramsey became the longest-serving Republican Senate Speaker in Tennessee history in 2009 and was elected to a third term as Speaker in 2011.
