by Rod Williams, July 27, 2025- While the 2028 presidential election is some ways off, Rahm Emanuel is giving every indication he is going to be a candidate. He was Chief of Staff under President Obama, former Ambassador to Japan, a Congressman from Illinois, and a former mayor of Chicago. He has a good resume.
Rahm Emanuel appeared on the Megan Kelly Show recently and made news by breaking with Democrats by saying a man who thinks he is a women should not serve his time in a women's prisons, that boys should not compete against girls in sports, that a man cannot become a woman, and that a child should not be permitted to get "gender affirming care" over the objection of his parents.
Astonishingly, this is considered a bold move. For a Democrat, it is. Maybe we are seeing a return to sanity. It appears to me that peak woke is past. This year's Pride events had many fewer corporate sponsors, various major companies are dropping their DEI policies, and we see much less rainbow-washing. I guess it was a couple of years ago, I went to a major fast-food hamburger place, and my hamburger came wrapped in rainbow foil. It seems like every company had changed its logo to a rainbow design. I think we are seeing less of that. I think Dems and corporate America were out of step with Americans on this trans stuff.
We didn't see them in Tennessee, but in the battleground states, one of the political ads that was deemed the most effective of the recent presidential campaign was a Trump ad that said something like, "Harris is for they-them; Trump is for you." I would contend that next to the immigration issue, it was opposition to wokeness that won Donald Trump the election. People are tired of being hectored for not pretending that a man is a woman, and being asked to choose their pronoun and all of the other woke nonsense being pushed down our throats.
In addition to taking a common-sense sense bold stand on trans issues, I find it refreshing that Rahm Emanuel appeared on a conservative podcast. I also think it is smart. During the last presidential campaign, Kamala Harris avoided such shows. Emanuel appeared relaxed and comfortable, and personable. He was likable. Democrats are missing the boat by refusing to engage conservative podcasters. Maybe Dems are learning something from the mistakes of the last few years.
When I voted for Kamala Harris last year, that was the first time I had ever voted for a Democrat in a national or state election. I hope that after Trump, the Republican Party will return to being the party of Ronald Reagan and Howard Baker, and I can again proudly be a Republican, but I fear Trumpism will outlive Trump. I know this is only one interview, but if I cannot return to the Republican fold, I will be carefully watching Rahm Emanuel.
