Occupy Portland Protesters Sing "F**k the USA"

While I am sure many are taking part in the Occupy Wall Street demonstrations because they are genuinely disturbed about the policies that lead to the bail out of Wall Street and what they see as Wall Street benefiting from the economic crisis, and while other simply want to be part of a movement and see it as one big party, and while there is a small Ron Paul/Libertarian contingent of OWS who will ally with anyone who will join them in wanting to abolish the Federal Reserve, others genuinely hate this nation. This is disturbing.

This reminds me of the Vietnam era protesters who marched burning American flags and sang "Ho, Ho, Ho Chi Minh" and idolized the Communist leader. There were those who hated this nation and wanted a Communist America during the 60's and 70's. Apparently there are those among the Occupy Wall Street movement who also hate this nation and want to destroy it. There are obviously traitors and enemies of America in the OWS movement.

  1. Kalle Lasn is the co-founder of Adbusters, a Canadian corporation (ironic, isn't it?) that's the brains and organizational savvy behind OWS. (Adbusters.org's "Campaigns" page is one place you can document the link.) His book Culture Jam makes fascinating reading--he gives a way more coherent statement of purpose than most of the demonstrators interviewed have.

    He has some very specific objectives, including:
    * holding shareholders legally liable for the actions of the corporation;
    * holding corporations *criminally* liable; and
    * overturning Santa Clara County v. Southern Pacific RR, the case that gave corporations legal personhood under U.S. law.

    I wouldn't buy a copy, but if you can find one at the library, or through inter-library loan, it's well worth the time and effort to understand just what he's working toward.
