Common Core: Good or Evil

To be honest, I must admit that I went into my research looking for reasons to hate Common Core.  I was under the impression that the federal government was making a back door attempt to take over education which, constitutionally, should be run by the states and local school boards.

......I found nothing to alarm me and, in fact, a lot to encourage me.  Common Core appears to be what the name implies; a common core of knowledge that the states can agree on to prepare students for college, if the student so chooses, or for a career after high school.  How the schools impart that knowledge is largely left to them.  And the curriculum and materials are left exclusively to them. Rod's comment: I am not in Tampa, but am glued to the TV watching the convention gravel-to-gravel and enjoying it immensely. I am watching it on C-span uninterrupted by commentary except for switching channels during musical interludes and long applause segment and then am catching a little on Fox, MSNBC and CNN. I think it is better to watch it unfiltered.

I have the utmost respect for John McCain and wish he was our President, however when John McCain essentially urged military intervention in Syria, he lost me. I am not so sure that the opponents of the Syrian regime would be preferable to the current Syrian regime. Also, foreign wars can be easy to get into and very hard to get out of. The last thing we need to do is to get bogged down in another war. We are a war-weary nation with no appetite for another war.At the same time, we must not abandon our leadership roll in the world.

When you start lumping all Muslims into as terrorist then you are playing into the terrorist hands. That is what they want. They want all Muslims to be considered like them. They want you to consider all Muslims to be considered terrorist, because if you do, that makes their job all the easier.

If you want to build a Lee Harvey Oswald souvenir shop at Dealey Plaza you have a right to. This is America!

We need to be standing up for rights and freedoms in this country, and sometimes that is the right and freedom for people to do things you don't agree with. That is part and parcel of the whole "liberty Gig" folks!

What it the terrorist want to do? They want to beat us with our own freedom. They want to defeat us by using our own freedoms against us, and you are going to allow them to do it.

I have been so disgusted by conservative leaders such as Sarah Palin and Newt Gingrich and Tennessee's Ron Ramsey and 6th District Congressional contender Lou Ann Zelenik and various conservative political commentators and talk show host just as Mark Levin and our own Steve Gill. I have been disgusted by those who would throw the Constitution under the bus in order to pander to bigots.

On the other hand, people like Chris Christie and Ron Paul have defended freedom and risen in my estimation. I am so very proud of our own Phil Valentine. He is a voice of reason and respect for the constitution in a world gone mad.
